Prohibited Items Policy
Last updated October 24, 2026
e-airbags.com exists so that a used airbag can be bought with confidence about what it is and where it came from. This policy lists what may never be listed. It is part of the Seller Agreement and the Terms of Use.
1. The one rule
Anything that is not a used original-equipment part removed from a documented donor vehicle is prohibited. The lists below give examples; they are not exhaustive. If a part does not come with the donor vehicle's VIN and a proof-of-origin document the seller can upload, it cannot be listed.
2. Prohibited parts
- Aftermarket, replica, "OEM-style", universal or counterfeit airbags and inflators, including airbag covers, emblems or modules sold to look like original parts, and any part bearing a counterfeit manufacturer mark.
- Deployed or previously deployed airbags, including modules that have been re-covered, re-folded or re-stuffed, and empty covers or housings sold as complete modules.
- Airbags or inflators under an open recall from the vehicle manufacturer or NHTSA (for example, affected Takata inflators) that have not been remedied by an authorized repair, and any inflator removed as part of a recall remedy.
- Rebuilt, repaired, modified or re-manufactured airbags, inflators and pretensioners, including parts with cut, spliced or repaired wiring, replaced connectors or substituted inflators.
- Inflators or initiators sold loose, outside the complete module they came in.
- Dummy, display, training or disabled airbags, resistor "bypass" modules, SRS defeat devices and anything designed to suppress a warning lamp instead of restoring the system.
- Parts with altered, removed or illegible labels, part numbers, serial numbers or date codes.
- Seat-belt pretensioners, buckles or retractors that have fired, have frayed, cut or sun-rotted webbing, or have been rebuilt outside a verified service listing.
- SRS modules sold as "reset" or "cleared" by a seller who is not listing a verified service, and modules with crash data misrepresented as clear.
- New parts of any kind, including new-old-stock, and parts from vehicles still under a manufacturer "do not sell" or stop-sale order.
- Stolen parts, parts from vehicles reported stolen, and parts the seller cannot show they lawfully acquired.
- Anything whose sale or shipment is prohibited by federal, state or local law, or that cannot lawfully be shipped by ground carrier.
3. Prohibited for lack of documentation
A part that would otherwise be allowed may not be listed if the seller cannot provide, for the donor vehicle: its 17-character VIN with a valid check digit, and a proof-of-origin document such as the auction invoice, title, salvage certificate or bill of sale showing that the seller acquired that vehicle or part. Parts bought in unmarked lots, "mystery bins" or without paperwork cannot be listed. Mail-in services and the few categories marked as not requiring a VIN are the only exceptions.
4. Prohibited sellers and listings
- Personal sellers. Only verified commercial automotive businesses may sell. Listing on behalf of an individual, or operating a business account for personal sales, is prohibited.
- Lots, bundles and "pick one" listings. Each part is one unique listing with its own VIN and photos.
- Stock, catalog or borrowed photos, and listings that reuse another seller's photos or text.
- Listings that invite off-marketplace payment or contain contact details, website addresses or prices for other channels.
- Listings in the wrong category to avoid hazmat shipping rules, or that misstate the position, part number or donor vehicle.
- Claims that e-airbags.com inspected, tested, certified or guarantees a part. We do none of those things, and sellers may not say we do.
5. What is allowed
Used OEM airbag modules (driver, passenger, side, curtain, knee, center, rear and seat-cushion), seat-belt retractors, pretensioners and buckles, SRS control modules, crash and occupant sensors, clock springs, and complete steering wheels with their airbag — each removed from a documented donor vehicle, undeployed, with no open recall, unmodified and photographed by the seller — and mail-in SRS module reset and seat-belt rebuild services performed by the verified shop that lists them. Salvage-title donor vehicles are allowed: what matters is that the vehicle is documented and the part is undeployed and unmodified.
6. Enforcement and reporting
Prohibited listings are removed and the seller is notified of the reason. Listing aftermarket, deployed, recalled or rebuilt airbags, or presenting false documents or attestations, ends the seller account on the first occurrence, forfeits pending payouts to the extent the law allows, and may be reported to NHTSA, the carrier and law enforcement. Buyers who receive a prohibited part are refunded under Buyer protection. To report a listing, email support@e-airbags.com with the link and what you noticed.
